Wheel Light Kit Installation Guide:
Installing wheel lights might sound complicated, but trust me, it’s easier than explaining Wi-Fi to your grandparents. In this guide, we’re breaking it down in the simplest way possible. Whether you’re a seasoned DIYer or someone who's never touched a power tool, you’ll be cruising with some seriously cool lighting in no time. Let’s get started – your ride’s about to glow up!
What Comes in the Box:
- (4) Prebuilt Wheel Lights - They're ready to shine!
- (4) Extension Wires
- Waterproof Bluetooth Control Module.
- IP68 Waterproof Remote Control
- Hex Cap Head Screws
- Zip Ties
Tools and Materials Needed:
- Screwdriver (Phillips and Hex)
- Drill with bits slightly smaller than the screws – Trust me, size matters here.
- Impact Drill (optional)
- Punch (optional)
- Screw Hole Lubricant/WD40 (optional)
Step 1: Preparation and Testing
- Unbox Everything – It's like Christmas but with truck parts.
- Wiring Harness Time – Connect the harness to your battery. (Red to positive, black to negative – like every jumper cable tutorial ever.)
- Test the Lights – Before you mount anything, make sure your lights are working. Use the waterproof remote or download the LEDShow app for Apple or Android. Now, resist the urge to blast your favorite EDM track while testing the lights... or don’t.
Step 2: Installing the Bluetooth Control Module
- Pick a Spot – Find a nice, cozy place inside your ride’s frame for the control module, away from the engine heat. Heat’s great for a tan, but not for electronics.
- Zip Tie Magic – Secure the module with zip ties like it’s a delicate prisoner of war.
- Wire it Up – We recommend wiring it to a switch. That way, your module isn’t constantly sipping on your battery’s power like a coffee addict.
Step 3: Removing the Wheels
- Jack it Up – Safely jack up your ride and remove the wheels. Extra clearance never hurts, so if you’re feeling fancy, remove the brake caliper too.
Step 4: Mounting the Wheel Lights
- Take Off 2-3 Brackets – Use a Phillips screwdriver to take off a few brackets so you can slip the ring over the brake assembly. Only 3 brackets are required, so don’t sweat it if you’re short on time or patience.
- Positioning – Make sure the wire lead from the ring is facing up. No one likes seeing a loose wire. It’s not the 90s anymore.
3. Mark and Drill – Mark your drilling spots like a pro with a punch, then pre-drill holes in the dust shield. Just make sure they align with your wheel light brackets.
4. Use Lubricant – Seriously, don’t skip the lubricant. No one likes a tough screw.
5. Screw It In – Secure the wheel light with the mounting screws. Simple as that.
Step 5: Securing the Wire Extensions
- Follow the Path – Run the wires along your factory brake lines or existing wiring harness. Tuck them high and tight.
- Zip Tie It Up – Use zip ties to make sure the wires stay put. Keep ‘em snug, like a good pair of jeans.
- Connect – Plug the wire extension into the corresponding control module hookup.
Step 6: Supplying Power & Ground
- Power Source – Hook it up directly to your battery, but we strongly recommend wiring it to a switch. It’s like putting a lid on your coffee cup – necessary.
- Upfitter Switch? – If your ride has one, use it. It’s the simplest way to power things.
Step 7: Bluetooth Remote/App Setup
- Download the App – Get the LEDShow app (Apple or Android) and turn on your phone's Bluetooth.
- Power Up the Control Module – Ensure it's connected to a 12v power source and check the fuse.
- Automatic Pairing – Your phone should auto-connect. If it doesn’t, hit the Bluetooth icon. Voilà, you’re now in control of your lights. Use your power wisely.
Common Mistakes & Tips:
- Use 3 Brackets Minimum – This is important if you want to keep that sweet lifetime warranty.
- Route Wires Safely – Secure them away from hot or moving parts. They’re not into rough treatment.
- Recommended to Use a Switch – Save your battery. No one likes being stranded with dead lights.
Follow these easy steps, and you’ll be the proud owner of a well-lit, head-turning ride. Your wheels will thank you – and so will anyone driving behind you.
